Tyler Reddick and No. 2 Emerson Team Overcome Adversity to Finish Second in Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL
“This race seemed a little bit like the story of our season, having to overcome challenges and adversity and coming back to end with a solid finish. We’ve gotten a lot better at road courses throughout the season, but I just made a mistake on that first lap and missed the backstretch chicane. My spotter (Derek Kneeland) and crew chief (Randall Burnett) did a really good job of helping me keep my focus after that incident, reminding me that it’s a long race and that we had plenty of time to regroup. We decided to pit before the end of Stage 1, knowing we wouldn’t get stage points that time, but that set us up for a good Stage 2 and rest of the race. Our No. 2 Emerson Chevrolet was good today, I just needed a little more front turn and rotation, but when we’d adjust to help one of those things the other would suffer so it was tricky to balance. The nose of our Camaro got knocked in on a restart towards the end of the race, but the damage wasn’t too bad and luckily we were able to keep going. From there, we just focused on the bigger picture of coming out of today with a solid finish to be in a good spot for Dover next weekend, and we were able to capitalize on other’s mistakes to climb all the way up to second before it was over. We’ve now got the two hardest races out of the way in the Playoffs, so I’m really looking forward to Dover next week.”
