DESCRIPTION:Skijoring combines cross country skiing with dog power. The skier is attached to his/her dog with a belt and towline. The dog then runs ahead as the skier skis. Skijoring is a team sport which allows both human and canine counterparts to exercise and enjoy the great outdoors. \nSkijoring is derived from the Norwegian word skikjøring meaning ski driving. The sport has been around for hundreds of years and originally started using reindeer and wooden skis. The sport also uses horses\, but dogs are now the most common animals used in skijoring. \nMost medium size dogs (30 pounds and up) who are trained properly can be candidates for skijoring.

DESCRIPTION:The Birkie Adaptive Race will start at 9:00 am on Friday\, February 24 on the American Birkebeiner Trail at Wheeler Rd.  The race course will follow the Birkie course across Lake Hayward\, over the International Bridge\, and finish on Main Street.  Parking\, accessible porta-potties\, and bib pick-up will be at Wheeler Rd starting at 8:30 am.  Please no walkers on the course.  Any support crew with an athlete must be on skis.  Volunteers will be on the International Bridge to offer assistance.   A course marshall will be sweeping the course and keeping track of skiers.  All skiers must be off the course by 10:30 am.
