We had 6 guys in the race racing as a team. The road race was very challenging in the hilly terrain around Fayetteville. With a race of 72 miles, nutrition and carbs become very important. I was able to attack the field and get away about 25 miles into the race, but that means I had to ride nearly 50 miles very alone and very hard. I had 4 Pure Fuel packets on board and metered them out accordingly to deliver carbs at just the right time. Fortunately, I was able to stay well nourished and finished strong to a huge time gap. I was then able to hold almost the entire time advantage in the 3-mile long 700 vertical foot hill climb Time Trial that evening. Sunday we went to downtown Fayetteville for the Criterium. This was a very hilly and challenging race that really tested me after a hard Saturday. I was able to ride up front and save a large time advantage for overall win! I felt incredibly good keeping the carbs flowing through the Pure Fuel this weekend. The nutrition was dead on!
